Luminarcs -- Excellent!
I just installed three Luminarc Reflectors into my 150 gallon -- I'm amazed at the coverage and intensity that these lights produce. They're definitely better than the Spiderlight reflectors

hmm, looks like there's light leaking through the seams on the top of the lumenarcs. You would think that wouldn't be the case for the price they go for. I'm planning on getting a couple in the future. Setup looks nice. Looks like you converted your canopy to a light shield. Does it shine in your eye without the shield?

im looking at the new smaller ones they made but at $130 bucks a pop im having a hard time deciding if i want to do that or not. i wrote the company today to find out if you can get just the metal reflector by itself if you already have the ballasts and the mogul bases. hopefully i can work something out with them and save some cash.
I also have to measure the canopy and make sure 4 of them would fit in there along with VHO's |

I got mine just the reflector through a group buy. You'll also need to get the socket assembly. it's an extra 15.00 or so.

i have the mogul sockets/bases and I have ballasts. Did you get the new "mini" LA3's or did you get the regular one?
if you dont mind me asking, what did you pay for just the reflector? |

I have 3 over my 250. Nothing compares to these things!

mine are not the mini's I have 2 they were, if I remember right, 85 a piece including the sockets and brackets. the brackets IMO are essential since it allows the adjustment of the bulb inside the reflector. they are awesome reflectors. love the fact that the "hot spot" is huge compared to other reflectors

I got five for the price of three for sending Dustin a box of frags... there is no debate that these reflectors rock... merlock the light leaking through has got to be literally less than 1/10th of 1%... way less than most SE reflectors... Sanjay Joshi is coming by this weekend, and if you're not sold on these you haven't seen his 500 gallon completely covered by just four of these unsupplemented... expensive up front but when you consider their effectiveness they truly bake... nice Bartlett's by the way Graham...

I don't know about the new mini units but a standard mogul style socket base wouldn't work in the larger unit without some fabrication.

I just got some new L3s in yesterday and PGS has made some changes. They have a new bracket design and the reflector is now made to accommodate a lens.

The Lumenarcs were the best money I've ever spent on my system. I'd recommend them to anyone with a tank that has a 24" or more width. The higher up front cost of these are easily made up from not having to use more bulbs, especially for larger tanks.
Anyone that's ever seen my system comments about the brightness & spread they put over the tank.

Here is my tank when I was running one 400w in a DL 03 on one side and 2x250w DEs in ReefOptix IIIs on the other side.
You can see the 1x400w SEs blows away the 2x250w DEs I now have 3x400w SEs in DL 03s

does anyone know what kinds of mods i would have to do if i just got the metal reflector itself? reason being is that i ordered my halide setup a while back for my 180 before the new "mini" version was around so i already have standard reflectors, and the mogul bases as well as PFO Dual 250w ballasts, so if i just got the metal could I easily attach the mogul base or is there much work?

Kozmo02,
I have pre-Pacific Garden Supply compacts and IMHO it is not worth even pretending to mod these for existing mogul sockets. Without a picture or visual of the supposed "new" design, I can't tell you if it is any better or worse to mod. Mine do not look like just dave's pictures earlier in this thread.

It's not worth the trouble kosmo02............i'd just spend the $15 for their mogul. I haven't seen the minis in person, but for your 180g the standard size Lumenarc would work much better.
I wouldn't bother switching from the reflectors you have to get the minis.

I checked out the links Thereefgeek provided and was unable to find any info on the MINI Luminarc. Plenty of info on the full size one, but I need some info on the MINI. Can anyone steer me in the right direction?
Thanks

Big E: the standards wont fit in my canopy and the minis will, and i know the minis are way better than the standard reflectors i have right now.
the reason i want to use my moguls that i bought is because it lowers the prices from like 130 down to like 85, so....... |

ask them for just the reflector. I don't think they advertise that they will sell them seperate.
