Check out this little Dwarf Lionfish
When I bought this guy he was around 1" in length. This dude eats mysis and flake!! He is now close to 2" and lives in my frag tank/QT tank.

Wow, Frank, I would love to see why it is a female too?
Thanks for the information!! She will eat anything I put in the tank including flakes!!! How wild is that? Primarily give her frozen mysis, but do vary her diet. Wish she would stay this size!!!

Yes---
as per the lionfish infosheet...where all things lionfish hath been written. --smile---you'll live longer this is all in jest --right "Adult male Dwarf fuzzy lions are readily identified by having a larger head, longer pectoral fins (the fin tips reach past the caudal peduncle), and have between 6 to 10 bands (or stripes) on their pectoral fins. Female Dwarf fuzzy lionfish have only 4 to 6 stripes. In the wild, Dwarf fuzzy lions live singly or in groups of three to 10 individuals, but in a large home aquarium (100 gallons or greater) it is possible to keep a large dominant male and several females"

and I thought I had that thing memorized! Frank, I'll bet your info sheet is one of your most widely read publications. I wrote a short little article over 10 years ago on Madagascan hissing cockroaches for a science supply company newsletter. I still have teachers track me down to talk about roaches. Much wider and more enthusiastic readership than any of my publications in refereed journals.

I had read it a long time ago, but didn't have a dwarf fuzzy at the time!!!
Has anyone ever captive bred these guys? I am not considering, more just curious. Lee

Lee--
you ask about captive breeding of these fish. The answer is yes and no. Yes as in I was getting my pair to breed frequently (the yellow male and a red female), got alot of egg masses (the female release egg masses that mimic "comb jelly fish". The egg masses would release eggs which in my cases either never hatched or once they did hatch, I could never get the prolarvae to feed on anything. S-Rots, SS-Rots, veligers, etc, I didn't have access to copepods back then. In addition, Matt wittenrich publish 3 or 4 yrs back in TFH that his trio would spawn and produce eggs frequently, however his eggs always reached the same fate as mine. So the prolarvae are extremely tricky, i suspect they will be copepod nauplii or even cilitate feeders, both of us are dedicated to gettting this to work- but not yet.

Frank,
I hope to see an article sometime soon about a successful go, I can't imagine how cool those would be at such a small size! Lee
