Video playback problems after upgrading
Following instructions that came with an .mp4 file, I upgraded my Windows Media Player from version 8 to version 10 and installed another Divx codec (although I should've already had Divx...).
The player sucked real bad, kept skipping so I rolled it back and uninstalled the codec. However, the symptoms stayed not only with the rolled back version but also a new video player I discovered. So the upgrade did something to my computer which did not get removed... any idea where to go from here?

windows media player will not play .mp4's. Quicktime may play it depending how it was encoded. The best bet is to use the VLC player, it will play just about any file you can find.

I'm using VLC now, but the issue is windows media player did something which screwed up my video playback completely with any program now.
BTW windows media player can play mp4 with version 10 and the divx codec (forgot which one), but I don't see why anyone would use media player...
