flood

does anyone have their ro/di system in the kitchen and leave it on overnight only to wake to a flood the next morning? I usually use a timer but forgot to put it on before filling up my container. I have wood flooring and it looks like it might need to be pulled up and redone.....very expensive. I really screwed up good this time.

I thought I screwed up my wood floor also. I ran a dehumidifier and aimed a fan across the floor. It's still not perfect but its not as bad as it was.

Gary I've done it more times than I would like to admit to. Luckily we have tile floor but my shoe molding is ruined in a few places.

Did it at the LFS a couple of times. The worst was when people forgot to close off the valve ALL THE WAY (since it had a spot where the valve would get a little tight, but you had to push it a tiny bit more to make sure it was closed), and the holding tank would slowly leak 300 gallons onto the floor.

Flooding the store slowly became a bit of a joke... until I flooded our store floor, the office, half the kennel, and parts of the Cost Plus World Market next to us.

However, we had tile and not hard wood. I would seriously consider having a mold inspector come out in a couple of months just to be safe, if I were you. Far better to just admit that there's a chance of mold and get it taken care of right away, than allowing it to fester.

Been there done that. Came home one day from work to see water coming out of my apartment and into the hallway. I had left my RO/DI unit on all day. Luckily my old apartment was on the first floor, and it actually ran straight from the bucket, through the kitchen and laundry room, and out the wall. Didn't cause any damage, but it freaked me out that's for sure.

My wood floor around my tank has "bubbled" due to my stupid flood mistakes! I put one of those float things on my RO/DI bucket so the water stops when it gets full. Has never leaked yet (almost 2 years) and I use it every day.

Why not use a float valve in your storage container?

We have our RO/DI unit in the unfinished portion of our basement- we were running it and watching a movie- we forgot about it and had about 3 gallons on the floor, but no harm done!

I set a timer whenever I turn my RO/DI unit on. Learned this after flooding a few gallons on the floor a couple of times. It is also one of the reason I put my 25 gallon storage container in the laundry room which is on a slab. If it floods it will just run down to basement and won't be on the wood floor.

I have done this so many times (coutless ones). Well, just imagine you have this line hooking up directly to your tank to top off. The loss will be more.

A cheap little float valve will save you guys. I did it the hard way years ago, but now it's impossible to flood anything. I know what you mean though, I remember finishing my basement hanging drywall, texturing, and finally painting then about 8 hours later ruining the ceiling because the tank upstairs flooded over. I was ****ed, i had just completed the painting and then a bunch of the ceiling was sagged and the paint blistering.
The tank is now on the bottom floor, thats the safest place

Im always making a mess in garage, but that is why I am buying a Float valve and a ASOV so I dont ever have to worry about it.

my RO/Di used to be under the kitchen sink. One time after replacing one of the filters, I didn't tighten the cartridge housing all the way so it started leaking and I never found out until about a month later.. the base cabinet almost collapsed because of rotting wood!

I just moved my RO/DI in the garage. If it ever floods, at least it will not damage anything..lol

sorry to hear about what happened to you

Been there done that. Lost a lot of livestock. Lesson learned though.

Wow, I did that this morning! I started filling a 20 gallon tub last night. I slept in and woke up to a mini flood. Thankfully I have tile flooring, and now my wife is happy because I mopped the floor.

The trick would have been to hide the RO tub, put a drop of soap on the flood and tell her, "Hunny, the floor looked a little dirty, I though I could give it a good moping"
