Dsb

OK, when i started this hobby a little over a year ago, crushed coral as a sustrate was driven in my head, now its DSB. Well , i am setting up a 72 gal. bowfront and i am going to make it half CC and half DSB. One reason is that "sand" at my LFS is $25 for 20lbs. My question is will i get both benifets out of this? It will be set up to where the left side of the tank is CC and the right is DSB, kinda looks like an underwater beach.

Dollarz,
I would rethink that. The two different substrates will mix, no matter how hard you try to prevent it. Crushed Coral just cannot provide the oxygen free zone necessary to eliminate nitrates.
Read about it here:

I see that you are on the east coast, you should be able to get Southdown. IMO, Go DSB exclusively, and forget the CC.

They ripped us off in Jacksonville back in the 80's and still doing it up until now . From what I recall, Camp LeJuene has plenty of sand .

Whoa, carefull now! In order for a DSB to be fully functional, you have to have the propper grain size that is one of two things I wanted to point out here. The second thing is that you have to worry about contamination.

DSB all the way. There are not benifits to the Crushed Coral. I wish I were as close to a place to get South Down as you are. I just mail ordered 200 pounds of sand for $125 including shipping from http://www.purearagonite.com/ . It was shipped from the east coast to Washington state. Sounds like a better deal then 20 pounds for $25. You could probably mail order for less than me.

Larry,
It's an inside joke between jarheads.
