Humming Rio 600
I have a RIO 600 I bought for my 12 gallon about a week ago and just noticed last night that there was a humming sound comming from it. This isn't a constant. It comes and goes. Could this be a surge that is leaking into the tank? If so how do I fix it. Once I figured out what was making the noise I unplugged it.
Need advise. Thanks |

It's a Rio. Personally I would get rid of it and get a maxijet. Rio's are notorious for wiping out tanks. Both of my rio's burned out. Luckily they did not open up and affect the tank.

could be anything....there is no way to fix it....these things are disposable, they break all the time. Just throw it away and get something that is built with a little quality. (why take the risk?)

all rios are epoxy filled so you dont have to worry about leaking. if worst it will prob just burn out.

What does everyone think of these?
Tunze Universal pump Mini 210.041 Tunze Universal pump Mini 5024.04 This is for a 12 gal. It isn't like the JBJs with the sump/refuge wall in the back this is an open tank. Everything else is like the JBJs it just doesn't have the sump/fuge. |

RIO got a bad name, and even though they have improved have never been able to shake those horor stories. Yes they crap out all the time, and I would never run one. But the odds of it destroying your tank is almost null.

rio
new /old doesn't matter NEVER USE A RIO. they are terrible. First I don't believe they change much if anything. They still get cases of them leaking. It took years and hundreds of people tanks destroyed before they even considered changing anything. I personally have been shocked by them a few times. They are all junk and belong in the garbage. Get a maxi jet
as far as the tunze. I have not use those pumps I use the streams, but anything they make is great quality a name to stand behind |

New rio's dont do that. SEIO's are good for the price too.

I would never reward TAAM/Rio for their years of neglect by giving them any money for one of their so-called "improved" pumps. I'd rather drive rusty nails into my nostrils.
Toss the Rio and get another pump. You'll not be sorry. |

Well the tax check will be around soon and that means new toys and new decoration for the tanks.
I love this input, very helpful. |

That's an insane story. Glad to hear that your hippo survived. I know that they can be touchy.
