why don't you pull the thing out of your tank, plumb it up to the powerhead, and put it in a bathtub.

See what kind of flow you get out of the spraybars.

That tank appears to be in dire need of a Flux Capacitor.

As long as you use a shower curtain with rings, you can skip the capacitor.

So this post started in September of last year and in case I have missed anything, it has not been water tested yet? Is this true? If so, any plans on when? Curious as to see how its going to work out.
I am by no means an expert on tank setup or design, but the level of skeptism should provide interesting results (whether its "See, I told you so" or "See, I told you it would work")

When it comes to reading this thread, I stopped thinking a long time ago. I'm just subscribed to see "what he'll do next". IMHO, the purple shower curtain is horrendously ugly (compared to cabinet doors) but maybe it'll fit once it matches the coralline in the tank. I personally would have went with Finding Nemo curtains, but that might get confusing for whomever is feeding his tank for him while out of town. I'm just still really wondering if this whole tank is a joke or if he's going to say "now I want a bigger tank" 2 weeks after he gets SW in it and decides to shut it down and start over.

Not that I am ripping on his design, but I dont understand the aesthetics of it. He has got one stand with more electronics in it than the space shuttle ( I agree with most that there was probably an easier and most importantly SAFER way of doing it, but to each his own) and he has a small tank sitting on it. Then next to this tank he has a display tank that has some PVC contraption in it.
Is this tank just an experiment or is he going to use it for display purposes? Just a little lost as to why one would set up a system that would appear to be very distracting to ones eye (overall, I would think you would want your main tank to be the focal point, not a small tank next to it).
I have seen many great pictures on this site and in friend's homes where they have a dedicated room that sits below or behind a large display tank. Many "sump room" setups I have seen are a mechanical feat and I am in awe at the level of work and effort put into them. However, most people put these rooms in places that are away from view for a reason, so that you are not distracted from the beauty and majesty of the display tank.

I just dont see the aesthetics in this setup. Once again, I am not criticizing JG, I am just trying to understand his mindset around the aesthics when it came to this system.

Was his main purpose to build a failsale system to try and mitigate risk? If so, that would explain the lack of aesthetics. I guess a good analogy would be "If I wanted to be perfectly safe when driving, I could have a car built that would be like a tank. It may not be pretty, but I dont have to worry about getting killed either"

The tank is going to be in apartment. Therfore I can not make a fish room modify walls ect. I am look into buying a house or condo in the near future and there will be a small fish room. All of the equipment on the stand next to the display tank will be in this room along with a sink RO system ECT.

ok, once again, to each his own when it comes to the aesthetic design. When are you going to put water in this and fire it up? After reading the previous 20 pages of drama, I am curious as to how it will work.

If you are home so rarely that it has taken this long and you haven't even put water in it yet, when will you find time to care for the reef?

i think the below quote bears repeating:

While I don’t agree with posts that only criticize or make fun and don’t offer any constructive criticism, I have to agree with TG. This politically correct back patting is even more dangerous to our hobby than the occasional poking fun at someone for a build that is clearly not designed well.

Any of them as long as it's the correct tubing size (1/4"). All your missing is that second little collar thing, it should come with any fitting that goes with 1/4" tubing.

For the foam stuff, "the Reef Aquarium vol 3" by delbeek and sprung has some great info on that. I don't recall what they reccomend off hand, but if you can buy/borrow that book it's more than worth the read IMO......

jk
The above one.

I'm assuming you got the 1/4" one of those two, correct?

If so than I'm baffled as to how it wouldn't have the inner collar things? Did it not have those little rings inside, or were they designed differently?
