I just tried "The Original Super Glue Gel" and was not impressed at all. It said about 15 seconds on the package, try two minutes! I was only fragging monti's but regardless. How long can you keep monti's out of the water? And, can anyone recommend another glue other than Loctite or Super Glue. I saw that GARF has their own type of glue, I wonder how quick it is.

I use whatever gel type super glue is cheap at Lowes or Wal-Mart with no issues. Pretty sure I have tried the loctite brand at some point.
Most SPS can survive out of the water for a long period of time (days even) as long as it remains damp, so a few minutes for glueing is a-ok. Just make sure that the glues that you use do not produce heat that would cook the coral while curing. |

I like to use the 7 gram tubes of zap gell... Big enough to do a lot of frags at once, but small enough where I don't have to use the same tube over and over and over again where the tip gets all crappy...
thefilterguys.biz is just one place to get it, lots of hobby shops cary it too... |

tripstank, If you submerge the glue/frag in water it will drastically speed up the drying time of any gel glue. I use Ross, I buy it at the Dollar Store for $1 for two tubes. Cheapest I have found.

Great point guys... "flash curing" by immediately dipping the newly glued frag is very important. Especially if glue will be toucher the polyp flesh directly. Not that important if you are gluing rock together...

If I ever get serroius about being a coral farmer, I will be buying the 200gm tubes of PALEO-BOND: http://www.bhigr.com/store/product.php?productid=279
Thanks, Scott

It might be good if you were going to glue big things together that needed softball sizes of glue gobs.. but for most frags just a few drops worth is good and it was just a pain to work with that big tube. Finally I just made a big pily of it and used a toothpic to dab it on the frag plugs... But even with that unless your going to use 200 gram tubes in one shot, the end nozzle get so jacked up that it was a bunch of dinking around to get it going again. Just some things to think about with those giant tubes.. (edit: that jurassic gel is the exact stuff he had... 200 gram tube) |

would need to be really serious into fragging for the 200gm tubes...

Is there any type of glue that takes a while to cure underwater? I have been trying to glue some frags to my base rock, and by the time the coral is placed, the super glue gel has already hardened

The cheap Super Glue Gel from Big Lots Is my glue of choice. $0.98 for 2 3gram tubes. I have used the Loctite brand but I prefer the cheap stuff from Big Lots or DURO brand from Walmart.
I am in the process of evaluating the Zap brand of CA Glues. It is cheaper when you can buy the larger bottles/tubes

When using super glue gel, is it possible to place glue directly on the frag, and then place the frag in the tank and adhere it to a rock?
Does the rock also need to be taken out of water and dried? |
