Snail ID Help Please 5 Clear Photos
Hello all,
I have looked several places, and could not get a positive ID on these snails. Any information is appreciated, and I am especially interested in their diet, and whether or not they are reef safe. I did my best to get good photos, and if you need more let me know. Thank you for looking. |

Hi,
All your snails are algae eaters except #4, which is a muricid, Stramonita haemastoma. The others are Periwinkles or Littorina snails. I'll give you the species names when I get home from work, if someone else hasn't already done it. Cheers, Don |

Thank you pagojoe. Your information put me on the right track I think.
Still looking for postive ID on the others. I looked up more informaiton on the Stramonita haemastoma #4, and found that it will drill holes in bivalves and cosume them. As for the Littorina and Periwinkles, they seem to be tidal zone snails. Do you think they will stay in a tank or will they continuously crawl out? |
