My Or3700 mod with mesh is pulling 15 lpm. This is after running it for about 7 hours, externally with about 5 gallons of water. The water temp rose to 113 F. Im afraid to hook this up to my 40 gal tank. Im assuming the pump is drawing more watts. Anyone get a temp increase after doing the mod?

Well got the shafts loose on both of them but broke one durning. I stuck the brocken shaft back in there and everything worked fine. Does anyone see a reason this will not work long term?

I went ahead and changed the other impellar in my Euro-reef tonight, so now both are using mesh material. Again I had to lower the water level in the skimmer significantly (8 twists) to avoid overflowing the collection cup.

Mavgi, I have some of that mesh to a fellow reefer for his ASM G-4 and he's going to mod it tonight, and let me know how it works tomorrow hopefully.

I would probably get a new shaft to replace it- No sense in risking screwing the impeller assemby up over a cheap part. Is the other one turning freely on the shaft?

Yes, the other one is spinning fine. And the skimmer is kicking but.. I don't have a another pump yet, and have it feeding with a Maxijet for now.. It's got bubbles out the but.. Waiting to see how it looks in the morning. To see if anything needs adjusted.

Thanks Again Kent.

So you've only got one pump on it right now?

No I have both pumps running Recirc, But as for Now I'm feeding it with a MaxiJet till I get the plumbing redone to feed the skimmer.

I had the to riser tube to low last night so I raised it a tad this morning. I'll give it a couple hours and check it again.

Cool- Initial thoughts? What is the diameter and height of the skimmer body itself on that?

Hey- Your cylinder volume is about 33 liters so I would shoot for about 1600 LPH of air for optimal performance. I'll bring my air meter over sometime and we'll see exactly what you're getting but I can guarantee you you won't need the third pump. Actually, you'll probably have to throttle one of them back just a tiny bit. If you aren't getting 1600 about of both together, we'll mod the venturi on one of them and fix that....

Here are a few pics. don't mind the collection cup.. This is the one I drop a while back on the basement floor and had to glue everything back together but still works.

Looks good so far- I'd still be interested in seeing what the pumps are pulling.

I have noticed that both pump on the intake side are leaking out little bubbles. Not bad but you can see them coming to the surface.

the uniseals that come with the ASM are junk. They will not hold anything together very tight. It took me for ever to get this thing together and back in the sump right.. Then When I did the first time the one damn pump would not work but after having water all over the floor Shaggy came over and together we got it back in there... What a pain!

heh- yeah placing them perfectly is important too...Based on your second measurement, I wouldn't put much more than 1200LPH or so. It's kinda pathetic that they had to put two big pumps on there to get around 1000LPH :-P. Basically, I get as much air in as possible while allowing the water level to be run right at the body to cone transition and get the quality skimmate you're looking for. If you have to keep the water level several inches below the start of the coned riser then you've got too much air in there for that body which in itself is not bad unless you like having to clean out the inside of your skimmer body every time you empty your skimmer cup. I tend to follow Deltec air to reaction chamber size ratios....

Finally got some time during the holidays and took a video of the skimmer in action. Here is what I did to the ASM G4X skimmer.

1. Mod both pumps (se9000, sd5000) with 3 layers of PF4 mesh
2. Both pumps venturi air intake are drilled and enlarged with 1/4" barber fittings and both are runing as feed
3. Add a "T" + a 90 elbow inside skimmer at pump outlets and point "T" and 90 elbow downward to get maximum contact time and reducing turbulance.

I got 18 lpm and 15 lpm on sd9000 and sd5000 after the mod.

Looks good so far. I think that since the pumps are at the bottom of the reaction chamber it may be capable of more air since you've actually got more tube to work with.

when I put the skimmer back in the one time and the one pump didn't work I was shocked how many bubbles it was creating by its self.

As it stands right now I have the water level in the skimmer maybe a 1/4" lower than the start of the cone. I started low and working it up slowly.

And I did use both Sedera 9000. I didn't have the stuff to mod the Dolphin 1200 so I didn't use it.

I would like to mod the venturi so it can suck more air, then if it's to much I can cut them back little.

Yeah I wouldn't worry about putting the dolphin on there. You could feed it with it but you'll need to throttle it way back since you only need about 400GPH or so running through it...

I would rather not use another pump and add more wattage if I don't have to. I'm going to T off my return line and feed it that way.
