Awesome pic!
Curious how you attached the bracket (hanging) in that mod....alot of CA glue? Want to do something similar, but was worried that the pump would detach....ouch! |

ya just gel glue and let it cure over night or use that accelerator spray.

Hi Snarkys -
Nice grooves on that shroud. Did you buy the shroud or did you make it your self? If you made it your self - what tool did you use to cut them? |

I used a table saw to cut it out. if you have one it is incredibly easy to cut. Think you can find cheapo ones for less then $100. basically just make a jig with the coupler on one side and a 90 on the other side and cut a slit and flip to cut the other side. the 90 makes sure you cut them even.
jig looks like this one I have made them with the miter/chop saw also . same results but the set up was more work. I don't have pics but basically you find the two half way points of the pipe or coupler and duct tape down a carbon fiber or SS rod lengthwise. this is so you have a ridge to flip the pipe on ever time you turn it to make the next cut so they all start and end in the same place. you also need to mark and measure where the slits will go . it is much easier if you have a miter saw with a laser attachment. this guy made a jig for the dremal. i did it once but didn't turn out as well but i was really halfassed about it. http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...5&pagenumber=6 |

Sweet - I had similar table saw thoughts - but I hadn't figured out the pieces to make it work.
THANKS!!! |

Ill post pics of my table saw jig later as well for making slots...its working great and keeps my fingers far away from the blade...always key with a table saw.
Now if only someone would make those cantering caps for 2" SCH80!!!

Just an idea, but anyone tried this?
I was thinking of making one, but basically having just open slits on the end, (making it really open though) and having it bell shaped near the pump. No stopper. put it on a wave timer, and have it turn on and off every minute or so, should start up in a random direction, so pretty random oscilating flow. Know what i mean?

What if it starts in reverse every time? Its not gonna benefit your tank much in that aspect.

The slot jig for table saw...
This is the jig for making MJSTream shroud slots. The 24" long side slides along the saw fence. For each slot, I wanted a quick and easy way to space the slots on the shroud w/o having to stop the saw and move the fence...So I use 3/8" thick trim cut into 24" strips. Cutting half a shroud takes a minute. So I keep adding strips for each slot, and the part I like is that my hands never get within 6" of the blade... Im paranoid about saw safety. The underside of the jig consists of strapping the section of pipe to the 1x4 poplar frame and keeping it secure. The sides of the frame are cove moulding with strips of sticky backed rubber weather-stripping. The center is a 3/4" square dowel that holds the pipe in place with two small bolts that are tightened from the topside. And the pipe fits like so^^^ After running the pipe across the saw 6-8 times, I undo one of the bolts to let the pipe rotate to do the other side...easily done with the accuracy of the jig as a guide. The results speak for themselves... The jig makes slots so fast and easy that in the time it took me to upload these pics and write the text I could have had another 20 shrouds done.
