That's the right price, I have never seen them for less than $100 per adult polyp.

Tony, are you sure they are not sun polyps?
I know the wholesaler who got the 30 colonies and thier wholesale price is more than $30 per polyp. I'm thinking you are mistaking sun polyps for dendros homie |
#37
|
|||
|
|||
so only this one wholesaler is distributing them?
|

I do not think that only one wholesaler is distributing them....

I am not going to get involved in this but from what I know, yes, there is only one for now. I have only seen them in and around OC. In my books that would qualify as "rare".

I saw them in LFS at Milpitas (Aquatic-Gallery) as well....Maybe you will see them later in the website store...or ebay for selling them...

that would be great, I hope people get a chance to own these guys. You should feel lucky Tony and grateful.

i wanted to share my frag w/u guys, this shows a comparison shot between tubastrea faulkneri and dendrophyllia coccinea
here's a close-up of 1 polyp, notice the size of the tubastrea faulkneri (original "sun coral" right next to it) ... dendro is HUGE compared to sun corals

That's a perfect comparision shot, you can really see the differences and the similarities

I am confused, is Dendrophyllia the family name or the genus name?

hey Baja, here's the best info I could find:
http://www.nmfs.noaa.gov/habitat/eco...rborescent.pdf dendrophyllidae is the family, dendrophillia and tubestrea are the two genus |

H2C-I couldn't even find a complete list of the species of dendros or a pic of each species, I have a trippy red center/yellow skirt dendro colony that is completely different
|

|||

yeah from my non scientific observations............ ive noticed about three different species in which we can call "dendro's"
There are several different skeleton colors, shape, and growth patterns.......... but these may just be a factor of location/depth in which the are collected.......... none the less they look different......... one thing many people don't seem to grasp is the size of the polyps when fully extended......... they look something like a anemone on a stick......... The comparison pictures above are of a small colony of dendro's, one needs to see a large piece to truly understand the uniqueness of these corals.......... oh well I guess we will just have to wait until someone does some solid research and really classify these things.................

I would say I'm far from a coral genius, but this picture looks to show the difference between the Dendrophyllia and Tubastrea. The smaller polyp coral on the right looks like a branching Tubastrea. Nice looking corals.
