I didn't get a chance to turn the water back on for the RODI unit to see if my latest attempt worked. I'll do it tonight
I picked up an end cap to replace the one on my manifold that is leaking. I cut it off this morning and will replace it tonight. It is the worst of the leaks... other than the union that was missing the "O" ring which I also picked up. The others are small... 1 or 2 drops a minute. The owner of the lfs where I bought the tank (who also builds and maintains big systems) has told me that small leaks like that will seal up with salt water.

That can be true, but vibration can re-start the leak.

I forgot... I also picked up some 1.5" spaflex to insert between the pumps and the manifolds. On your advice.
I hope that this will keep me from having to take your other advice... which would be to start over.

After I sent the last message... I started thinking that I should just get it over with. How can I be assured that the same thing won't happen again?
Different glue? Sanding pipes better? Focusing on the 1/4 turn? Anything I'm missing? I'm mad at you... by the way. Mostly for being right.

Honestly... I appreciate your help.

Well, you just can't let leaks go, especially when the tank is in a living space like that. If you come over we can do some glue-ups together and see if there is anything about it that needs improving.
Honestly, the only time I have ever had a problem with a glued joint is when I forgot to actually glue it. The pipes fit so well together that they just have a very slow drip. When I went to fix it, I found out they weren't glued at all.

I glued 'em. I'm going tomorrow to The Home Depot in Bellevue. There is this old retired plumber that works in the plumbing section that has all the answers. I'm going to ask him for any tips and the best glue so that I can do it right this time.

You can't be serious? Sometimes those guys tell you a line just for entertainment!
The best glue is what you are using. Oatey is just fine. That's what used in houses, nearly every aquarium etc.

blue glue? what blue glue? There's a clear and an orange PVC glue... You talking about PVC Rain-R-Shine® Blue Cement?
I use the medium clear Top Row, Right side.

Well, I am not sure until you see the label and tell us what it is. It could be Rain-R-Shine as i have seen that on the shelf in HD. But there is some reason why I don't use it. I think because it's blue and I like to use clear.

Don't feel bad, all my bulkhead pipes leak some with salt creep. BTW the salt creep doesn't seal it especially in very humid FL. My tanks in the garage though so it just doesn't matter. You can bet if it were in the house I probably would've had to redo it at least a half dozen times. I think there's a plumber gene and believe me...I ain't got it!

Ok... So, are you saying you don't like the blue kind because it's blue? Because I checked it and it is the Rain R shine. Is that bad?
I'm just curious if I'm gonna rebuild these manifolds... only to have them leak again. By the way... mrcrab... saw your thread today. impressive.

Not too sure about that but thanks. I've been spending some more time on it lately and I'm hoping to get it close to the way I want by the end of the month.

yeah, the Rain-R-Shine would be fine for what you are doing. I just don't like the blue color. I just prefer clear because it looks better if I spill it.
Rain-R-Shine does set very quickly though and that may be giving you a problem.

Hey Kannin. Cool project you have there. It's going to take some practice with pvc. Why not try building a few things first. Just some stupid projects like a rack or something? Or some rod with a few joints in it and an end cap. Add a thread on to the other end and connect your garden hose. See how the pressure holds. Just a few idea's. Good luck dude!
