every post dealing with gigas results in followup posts of people telling the thread starter that the clam is going to get too big. How come people can't just answer the question.

Yes that seems to be a good price

I have read that they can grow as fast as 1 - 1.5" a month. I just got a 3" giga 12/23/04. Since that time it has grown 1/2".

wakesetter - the reason ppl post that they will get too big is because they will. period. They are the reason that this group of clams is called "giant."

..but you'll be able to house it for a nice long time before it gets TOO big. And, yes, under good conditions you can see growth up to 1.5 - 2 inches per MONTH. Make sure you leave room. And it will such up Ca like nothing else..make sure you can supplement it somehow!

Man Gigas do Grow extremely fast.. I got one 2 months ago... and It has put on a good inch just since I got it... I kinda scored a pretty sweet deal for a 4-5" Gigas for only 30.00 from a new LFS here... To be quite honest I dont even think it was 2 months ago but that is a close guess.. I think maybe a monthand a half at most.. Pretty sweet score If i must say

As to the Taste.. I dont like seafood but I hear they used to sell more in the Food industry than in the Aquarium trade.. So they must taste pretty good lol

And when it gets too big, you can eat it...the natives in the tropics seem to like giant clam meat...apparently the giant adductor muscle is quite tasty. You can also make some kind of clam wine out of the tissues as well, or so i have read.
