hex reef and the SCWD

Hi,

I'm just setting up my first tank - a 45 gallon hex tank and I'm wondering if anyone has used the SCWD wave device in a hex? Right now I just have a return jet skimming the top and a powerhead low down - given the shape of the tank, this causes flow - but I would love to see if the scwd has been implemented, and if so how in a hex. For that matter - any links to hex samples would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ritchy

Ritchy,
Check out my gallery for pics of my 45 G hex. I don't use a SCWD though.

I use a prizm HOB skimmer for some surface flow and one powerhead at the surface on the right side. I have three other powerheads in the tank that are located behind the rocks and that gives me a lot of flow. Two point out from each side of teh rock work and ine points down in the back of the rocks.

I don't have a current pic as I recently had to reaquascape again since my toadstool and bubble were starting to touch real bad.
Glad to see another hex as there arn't too many of us on here who are using them.

Hook the return line to a SCWD, then to lock line one pointing clockwise and the other counterclockwise. Then bam super random current as the flow rotates from side to side colliding with the motion in each direction.

Five tangs in a 10 gallon. No problem, just use this Skilter filter. Good to go. Thanks

a newbie question on the powerheads.......the guy i bought my tank from told me to keep the flow in one direction throughout the tank but from what i've been reading (and getting more confused) is that just his opinion or best for a 40 gallon hex

SV, think about it. The ocean dosen't always flow in the same direction.

SCWD are OK. I was pleased with mine, even though the switching would sometimes stop. Eventually it started leaking and I had to remove it. Seems like they fail over time. I replaced mine with a T and it seems to be a bit better flow.

svt,
Don't make me out to be older than I am. I still got a few good years left in me. Just been around and seen a lot. Sometimes common sense seems to pass us by.
I know there are a lot of the LED moon lights out there so I guess they work. Since my tank is in the bedroom, I don't think the wife would go for the moon lights. Actually I know she wouldn't so I don't use them. I think there are a few people who report that they have had spawnings in their tanks when using the moon lights. May be a conidence but he, makes for a good story.
As for teh Harley, I picked it up back in November. It's a '05 softail springer. Black Cherry Pearl/Black Pearl two tone. Got 3600 miles on it already. If you ride two wheels, check out this thread.
