Getting clams off rock??

Is there any other way to get clams to release from rock besides cutting them?
I stood the rock on end thinking they would release on there own but they did not.
What if I took the rock out?

Thanks
Jason

i have heard you can point a powerhead at the threads but havent tried it,so i cant tell you how long it takes to work.i have removed a few clams from rocks,i just cut the threads(as far from the shell as possible)with a razor knife.

if done correctly cutting them will do no harm. the byssal threads are just a glandular secretion and have no blood flow or nerve endings
