wife new coral. Any Idea's?

Wife got this at a LFS any ideas? I have searched the web the past two days with no luck. Is it a sponge? Its hard and crusty. tubular with plates that hold the tubes.

So it is dead? from what i have read on the web this is its skeleton? or will it revive? I feel bad that my wife may have bought a dead coral

do any white polyps come out of the tubes? they should look like little daisy's.

That does not look alive to me. If you look at the tubes, each one should have a small white polyp that comes out of it. At the very least you should have a small bump inside the tube showing that there is a polyp inside it. I think the one you have is Tubipora musica (pipe organ coral).

It does look dead, polyps are kinda greyish, little bumps, shame on LFS for selling to your wife, she should take it back!
