OK. Just wanted to be sure. Just be sure to get it from a good vendor that will check to be sure it is the newer model with the Eheims. I would get it from Premium Aquatics.

im considering buying from a reefer here on RC.He claims its NIB,with the eheims. Ive also been looking at the H&S skimmers and have had a hard time deciding between the two.
Edit......I just noticed he only has 2 posts so i may not go that route.Ill check with premium aquatics. |

H&S are really nice. The 3x Eheim is $2200. The ER RC500 is $1528. They are both 12" body 30" tall skimmers. How much is the used one?

He says it is NIB for $1350,but im a bit skeptical so i may just buy one from a euroreef dealer to be safe. |

Last week, I converted my 30g to a 55g and added new rocks with some pretty nasty stuff on them. Since then, the performance of my RS-80 has fluctuated. For example, I can get it dialed in at about 2-3 inches in the cup for a few hours then all of a sudden the skimmer startes going nuts and overflows the cup. Is this becasue of the varying docs going into the sump at any particular time? Sometimes I have to open up the riser tube all the way and it still pours into the cup.

My neighbor has the RC-500 upgraded to dual Eheims and he says its a significant improvement (he is closer to 450 gallon water volume). I haven't seen the three pump version in person yet. I can't image you will need it on a 120 gallon tank. My RC500 Skimmer Page Skimmate Pictures

Sorry if I am just butting in but I had a question regarding my new euro reef skimmer. The new tank I started has fine sand, substrate is a first for me. My rs 100 sits in my sump. The sump also has a filter sock. Some sand has been pulled into the skimmer and is resting in the bottom of the body, its not that much. Is this normal, or okay? I will clean it regularly but will this affect performance in any way?

I would just be concerned that if sand is making it into the skimmer, it may be damaging the impeller magnets and pump. I don't understand how your filter sock is not catching it.

It is sugar sized sand. I guess the sand is not fully settled down yet. It is not actual grains getting past it looks like fine powder. I have a tunze 6100 on its lowest setting and I'm still getting movement on the substrate. Hopefully this will stop. What if it doesn't?

Also I believe at this early stage in the tank(2 weeks) the water is near pristine. I know I will not produce any waste yet, but my skimmer cannot even produce large bubbles. Its more like constant fizz. I have seen large bubbles in the first week after introducing live rock but now its just fizz. Is it my adjustments or too early for the tank? Thanks for the help.

professor-when my pistol shrimp starts to stir up the sand my 6-2 will start pulling a bit of sand in skimmate too even with my 200 micron filter sock

The substrate thing is new for me. I previously ran bare bottoms. I know a lot of people have fine sand, and I already know how messy it can get. So that leaves me to believe this is not uncommon. Thanks neo, do think the sand affects the skimmer performance? I don't even think a pre filter of any sorts could stop sand from getting in.

once your sand bed matures it won't get stirred up so easily. a canister filter with some filter floss will catch a lot of the sand before it goes to skimmer. i have 3 nanostreams on my 90g that give me about 30X turnover, i get a little bit of movement in the sand too, try playing around with position of the tunzes. pointing the tunze more towards the surface will also help to slow down the flow.

I really hope they can take care of you. I know that ER can't get your skimmerless time back, but hopefully they can make your skimmer problems go away..... BTW, any word yet? I have a feeling that the reason you are having to wait so long is because they were closed for quite a while during the holidays Mainly during the time when you were having the initial difficulties. I say this because so many others that experienced your difficulties were delt with in a very timely manner from what I have seen. Hopefully they will make right! As for the Deltec skimmers, yes, they are very pricey, aren't they But Deltec USA is a much different business than ER. Doug, the owner is not resposeable for any production issues. That free's up much more time for him to concentrate on sales and CS, which he is very good at (hence the extra buckarooneys $$$$). And a nice guy IMHO But he doesn't have to focus on any of the things releated to making or designing any of his products. Moreover, as far as Deltec to ER ratios in this country, there are many, many more ER's out there than Deltecs. And as more and more Deltecs begin to circulate, we begin to see some chinks in this shining armor of Deltec USA. In the end (when they are up and running ) they both will remove DOC's from your tank! Cheers, Jim

JD-
I spoke with customer service and found out the problem. The replacement impeller was shipped out on the evening of the 29th. With the holiday weekends and the extra day honoring President Ford it has just gotten lost in the mail. They said that I should have it by Friday. I'm sure their customer service is usually really good......in fact I've heard and read stories about it being phenominal. Unfortunately I just bought it at an inopportune time. SJM - As soon as I get my new impeller I'm going to do the recirc mod on my RS 180. I'm picking up the uniseals this week. I sent an e-mail to ER asking the exact location of the holes on the body of the RS-180 so I could mount my pump in the same spot as the RC-180.....but I haven't heard back yet. Can anybody here give me the exact hole locations (measurements from the bottom of the skimmer) on the bottom of an RC-180? Thanks.

The RC180 and 250s used to have Gen-X pumps. I'm not sure if the hole locations changed when they went to Eheims on the RC models. I would get the specs for the Gen-X RC if possible.
Here is a pic of Gen-X and Eheim RC250. Cant find RC180.

Could you post a closeup of the neck below the colection cup? (clean the thing out first!!). I want to see the bubble size you are getting. TIA!
