bulkheads on a Brute trash can
Is it possible to get a bulkhead fitting to seal if installed in a Brute trash can? If not a bulkhead, how could I install a fitting in one?

I use regular bulkheads. You just need to tighten a bit further but it works.

Schedule 80 bulk tank fittings from your local farm supply store. Cheaper than reular fittings at the lfs, & way better.

Use a little silicone inside and out too. Worked for me on a Brute and a Roughneck.

avoide the silicone, it makes it very difficult to re-use the bulkhead, and if it ever gets twisted the silicone will ball up and cause a leak requiring removal to stop the leak, requiring you to drain the container as well

Used bulkheads on trash cans a few times. Make sure you get a nice clean hole. I always use a spade bit to get it just right. Works like a charm.

I've always used bulkhead fittings on trash cans. I'm sure it's possible to use Uniseals, but I've never tried it. I'd just stick with bulkheads as it is a SAFE bet and they will make a great seal.
www.thefilterguys.biz sell some decent bulkhead fittings. |

I'm using Uniseals in mine and they work fine.

i don't like to use a drill bit to drill holes in thin plastic like a trashcan or a storage bin. I prefer to use a greenlee chassis punch. they cut perfectly round holes without any burrs. (sometimes it pays to have multiple hobbies - you accumulate lots of nice stuff). you could also use a holesaw or a hole cutter or a forstner bit. i think that all of those would outperform a spade bit.
another option for a cheap DIY bulkhead that would work well on a trashcan or a plastic rubbermaid tub is the $1.00 PVC Bulkhead, made out of male/female electrical conduit adapters. there's a thread in this forum.
