Caribbean Live rock?
I already had some premium live rock from the caribbean shipped to me... But I just read in a book that it can be dense and less desirable to reef keepers... But I've also read the exact opposite from some web sites and other aquarium books I've read... any feedback on this live rock?

The Caribbean rock I got from LiveAquaria.com was great. It comes in long flat pieces. It makes great shelves for caves. It does however come uncurred and I used it to cycle my tank. Tons of critters on it.

Mine came 80% cured they said... So I'm curing the rest of it in my New tank as it cycles... What color is yours?

The caribbean rock I got from e-tropicals was [profanity]. Nothing on it . Vary dens. I got 60 lbs. on sale. I put it in my 75 gal. ,as base rock, and got a box 44 lbs. of walt smith from fiji much nicer.

The Caribbean LR I once purchased, while being great for shelves and caves, etc... was too dense / heavy compared to Fiji or other more porous Pacific varieties. Just a matter of personal preference and objectives.

Caribbean rock is definately more dense than pacific rock like Fiji, Pukani, rock like that its not as open and porous. it is preference though and it is cheaper. I do think the pacific rock IMO is much nicer

Looks like base rock and not much coralline/life when compared to other types of live rock.

I purchased my florida rock from LiveRocknreef and it has alot of life, coralline algae, tunicates, hard corals, sponges, gorgonians, a few scarlet hermits and blue legged hermits as well. I was shipped what I asked for. I was very pleased. I've heard good things about Tampa Bay Live rock too.
The farmed rock is heavier, much to my dislikes, but I liked the diversity of life and that it was farmed. |
