ricordea
I'm new to ricordea but want to learn. How fast do they grow? Is there a minimum tank size that they have to be in? And what would be a good one to start with? I don't want to buy one and have it die on me! =)

I have just recently started a ricordia tank and have had it up and running for about three months now.
What I've learned: Tank size: It can go in just about any tank size, nanos I think are better because of the size of the polyps it seems easier to keep track of them that way. Lights: I have PC's, but you can have them under almost any type of light like MH's or PC's. You just have to start them off in the lower half of the tank where the light is the dimmist and slowly move them up within like the first 2 weeks or so(part of the acclimation process). The ricordia will usually shrink up or stay closed if its not happy with the lighting. Feeding: I noticed that when I add phytoplankton the rics seem to color up better. Cyclopeeze and Rotifers are some good foods that I use to feed my rics. Those three things seem to really color up my rics. Some people use mysis to spot feed their rics, I have never had much luck with that though. I also add calcium and alk to my ricordea tank, the rics seem to be getting bigger, I don't know if that helps, but seems like it does. Growth rate: They are pretty slow growers, but I hear that when they are established in the tank for about 6 months or so they start to take off. Easiness: Rics are the easiest to take care of and maintain. They are hardy and have many of the same characteristics are regular mushrooms. Yumas are the little more difficult ones to take care of. |
