Tiger tails, H comes?
Hey all, has been a LONG time since I have posted here . Been super busy with college and I have a horse farm (the four legged kind, not the prehensile tail kind ) that has been my primary concentration but I finally decided to get back into Seahorses 3 months ago after taking a break for 3 years. I have some CB H. kelloggi females which are doing awesome. I am curious after taking a break from seahorses for so long if H comes are still around? I had a male that lived I think for a good two years and they have always been my favorites second to the Pot Bellies (don't have a chiller so don't want to attempt those). So are the Tiger Tails (H. comes) still available and available CB? The one thing I miss about the WC are the prices but is SO much better with the CB's. Anyway sorry for rambling, am excited to be back here! Thanks in advance for any info anyone can provide!

welcome -I remember you when I first came to RC, crazy, huh (name was lilswanwillow then, but yeah) HELLO!!!
there are occasionally comes around... not often. Ummm, DebsSisterFlow (at least, thats her name on TRT-may be different here) has a trio... or pair? I forget. but I THINK that all of the comes are still WC? oh, and your kellogi may not be kellogi-theres been HUGE debates about it on seahorse.org; mostly ending up with reidi... and the few kellogi that there are are net-pen raised, which is ALSO a new issue in the past year or so

I have one tigertail female, born 10/18/03 to wildcaught parents - she's almost CB - but I can't find a mate for her. Actually, she may have found her own. She shares a tank with a pair of reidi and a female barb. On 3/11 my male reidi gave birth but I'm not sure who the momma is. My diary notes say he and the tigertail were doing some heavy courting 14 days before the birth but he had been courting the reidi female also. I guess we won't know for sure until (if) the fry grow up... I have 20 of them at 9 days old so we've got a long way to go.

here I am! Ok, I got my 3 from the same store here in Green Bay WI. They are tank raised (dads were WC).
I have two males, Tigger and Bob, and Lucy is our little yellow girl. She was almost black like the boys but as soon as she went into my tank she yellowed up and has stayed that way since. The boys stayed dark... that is until the day that Tigger was flirting big time with her! He was almost white with the gold swirls, and he had his pouch open wide, it was so cool to watch... I don't think anything happened after that tho, his pouch does not look like there are any little ones growing inside. You can see a few pics in my gallery here, and if you'd like more just lmk and I'll load them. They won't eat frozen so I am feeding them live enriched brine, and I am going to order live mysid and see if they'll breed and survive in my tank. All 3 are always hunting and snicking pods, etc. I just want to get the mysid cuz I hate the fact that I'm feeding brine, but when that's all they'll eat I guess I've got to cater for a while!

They are still around. There was a large shipment of wild caught a couple months ago. I believe there were many issues with this batch and most have not survived. I got 4 from the batch and only have one left. I did manage to get 5 cb/tr comes about a month ago from a lfs. They said they were coming out of Bali. Not sure if they were tank raised or captive bred though. They are tiny, around 2.5-3 inches and eat mysis. You can see pics of a couple of them in the seahorse photo forum of seahorse.org.

as others have said, they are still around. at least in this area there are always some to be had. i purchased four on january 1, two remain alive today. there were some major problems with the horses i purchased, labdoc was sent the first male who died within 96 hours of purchase - results of necroscopy are in pathology over on the org and also in a thread in Disease and Treatment (i'm anela there). in a nutshell: male had worms in gills, worms in upper GI, protozoa in gills, swim bladder, bowel mesentary. he also found protozoa in the heart. in addition he had atrophied stomach/intestine and liver. buyer beware on any supposedly "TB" or "CB" comes coming into stores. mine are still in QT, they've had full rounds of prazi, fenbendazole, metronidazole, and are now on florfenicol, not to mention the use of formalin, FW dips, paraguard, and rid ich+. l

WOW
thats the whole net-pen raised thing for ya they come eating frozen just fine, but have all of the pathogens that WC horses have. that makes me want to cry for ya!!! I have one female acting strange right now, I'm pretty worried about her, actually. BUT even a good QT wouldn't have caught whatever is wrong with her: had em since December and this started last week. so everyone, kinda be aware that although they make it through QT just fine, sometimes they can bring something through a QT. I think this one may have worms, but the other two are acting fine. I'm doing a wait and see as to what happens.

Ok thanks guys for all the info. I would LOVE to find some. I will have to expand my search and see what I can find! I think I got the male that I had back in 2000 from Sea Dwelling Creatures (worked for a fish store back then and did all the ordering and saw the Tiger tails so ordered one) and had him for a good 2 years and I don't remember what he everntually passed away from but he was my favorite seahorse and I had kudas, bright red and orange, reidi, barbouri's, etc. and he was my fav. Thanks again and will have to go and try to find some...somewhere!
