Angry getting frusturated

about a month ago i upgraded from pcs to 10k halides. been working on getting my temperature down. its normally around 80-82. on hot days it might jump to 86-87. does this explain more than normal algae and corals not responding to light how long should it take for a tank, 55 gallons to completly adjust to brighter light.

How did you acclimate your tank? An upgrade to your lighting will cause an algae problem as things readjust and find a new balance. Your corals, etc, need time to adjust to the new lighting so people generally do things like put eggcrate on top of the tank and then layer several layers of window screen, removing a layer every 5-7 days. You went from PC to halide and although you didn't state the number of halides, or the wattage, that is most likely a huge jump for your tank. If your corals are looking bland, they are reacting negatively to too much light too soon. The algae bloom will generally take care of itself as things come back into balance.

About the temps, do you have fans on your display/sump? How is the canopy ventillated? If you can keep it at 80-82 consistently now with just one new fan you should probably be in good shape as it stands.

i did use 5 layers of window screening and slowly removed them over the last four weeks. it was a drastic jump from old pcs to 2-250 halides ond three 96 watt actinic blue bulbs. good to hear that it might just take more time for things to settle in to there new, brighter home. im getting anxious to see things start growing after not having enough light for so long. ill try to be more patient. lol!

I know of people who acclimate more slowly than that just for replacing halide bulbs. I'm too impatient to wait that long so I'm with you on the 4 weeks. Yes, patience should pay off for you in this case
