Looks like a wolf spider. They are nice to have in the garden.

No problem. When we find them in the house Lizzy gets them.

I was under the impression that wolf spiders jump. They also bite and leave a huge welt. They also eat mosquitos so don't kill it

I got bit by something......

At work....right below the knee. Caused a golf ball sized lump to appear in no time. I never felt the bite, only noticed the lump on my knee when I sat down

So now I'm in a Benadryl haze....

I've been asleep for a little over 2 hours

Benadryl really put me to sleep

I work at a Hospital, so many doctor's looked at it
- they told me to have a doctor look at it
They said you will definitely feel the bite of a recluse spider

They said to keep an eye on it for the next 3 days. Any sign of redness or infection go back & have it looked at again

Just very weird to sit down & notice a golf ball sized lump on your knee
A lot of the swelling has gone down. I would go in the Hot tub to soak. but they said avoid heat

I would avoid the hot tub. That is where Kurt03 got his pic of his spider.

As I understand it, all spiders are poinsonous it's just a question of which ones are dangerous to humans and ALL of the dangerous to human ones in North America are pretty small.

Well I really hope that you are feeling a bit better by now... If you feel worse or that lump doesn't go away, please get re-checked ...

And I agree w/M peacock !!!

Ummmm....No you wont. It feels like any other moderately painful bug bite. However, you will know what it was in a couple of days as the wound starts getting bigger n bigger. It keeps growing for about 2 weeks and mine came with a nasty infection.

Here's what mine (a very mild bite) looked like after 3 days:

well like above all spiders are venomous but there are different levels of toxity (spelling?) I believe the only sp. of spider in N. America you have to worry about is the recluse and black widow. The only spider i would really be afraid of is the most venomous the wandering spider, there are reports of them actually attacking you and chasing you.but my brother got bit by a recluse between the toes and he said it just itched. I have seen some real bad ones. But we have a lot of recluse and black widows out at my house. But we live on 80acres so thats why. On a "good" day I find about 4 female black widows in our brick pile. I have caught a red widow and kept it. But it got out and is living in our house

Thanks for the laugh Shanna!!!

Okay, aren't we all going to have a somewhat different reaction to a spider bite, or a bug bite even???

One of the docs can probably answer this better, but I think the difference is in the types of reactions. If we're talking about something that has an allergic reaction then you're going to see a wider variety of responses. If it's a non-allergic reaction to a toxin then it's going to be pretty similar.
