I've been there many times since I'm local. I like the place cept coral is on the low side.. I come mostly for fish and inverts tho,
Got a goby/shrimp pair, Stonogobiops Nematodes and Alpheus Randalli for only $25 and loving them . Is Will the one who hangs around the SW section?
They also got a website if you want to know what they get in.

you guys check out their website? those testimonials seem highly selective, i doubt a 2 star would make it. and their description of fish are ripped off almost word for word from other websites. like their personifer angel description is word for word from marinecenter.com

http://www.luckygoldfish.net/product...roducts_id/179
http://www.marinecenter.com/fish/ang...iferangelmale/

what gives? some of their pictures aren't very original too. not to say other sites aren't guilty. but copying pictures and text? kinda irks me.

some of his pricing is way too low, i'm curious to know if he even has some of the fish listed on the website, like the blue-line for $135 thats well below wholesale cost.

just my opinion. hard for me to do business with someone when i see things like that.

adult male? blue-lines aren't sold male/female like scribbled and personifers. still, $100 for a large blue line is still at or below cost. congrats on getting a such a great deal. i'd love to see pics of your tank. I had a blueline 3 months ago but i had to separate it from my other fish so i put it in the refugium. poor guy got his ocular spin stuck in my cheato

I took a look at their website. From my understanding its in the works. They haven't had it up for very long (only a couple of months). But their prices are truly low. However they tend to change depending upon who you ask. Either way, they have always had the lowest prices out of all the fish stores I have been to so I can't complain. I also never have a hard time finding help.

I am sure there are better fish stores out there. But I haven't found a great one in San Jose. This is just one of the better local ones.

HAHAHA! Sleeping fish, thats what the store owner says.

I'd ask;

Me: "Hey whats wrong with that fish? When did he arrive? I think he's dead..."

Him : "No he's hes sleeping, long flight here you know man?"

Me : "Is that why hes closing his eyes and laying down?"

Him : Ya, you know?! Fish sleep all tyme!

Me : "Fish don't close their eyes, they lay down but not close their eyes..."

Their prices compared to everywhere else is low, but hey you get what you pay for.

They dont offer guarantees, whereas Aquatic Gallery does, I believe its a 7 day guarantee. They request that you bring in your water sample too. So they sugar coat the reason why you screwed up and "sorry, we cannot provide you a guarantee if its YOUR fault the fish died."

Bastards!

lol Sadly that place is too far and too expensive for me to really benefit from them. But it did have a nice coral selection and fish when I went there. However the 7 days guarantee isn't really helpful. I have never had a fish die on me that quickly. I think you would have to get a really sick looking fish for it to not make it that long.

I would love to go to a fish store that actually QTs their fish for a month. Most of the places around here sell them out of the bag (aka places them in the tank right away) or only after a week of QT. That way you can weed out picky feeders and really sickly ones. I wouldn't mind paying a bit extra than average for a fish like that.

don't you think a 7 day guarantee is quite generous though ? i mean, i don't expect a 7 hour guarantee or 7 minute for that matter. i select my fish and live with my decision and understand that livestock is delicate. if i have a fish shipped, i only expect that it arrives alive and does not look like it was "near death" before shipping. of course i check to see that it was shipped properly. isn't fish keeping really "our risk" ? i always feel very guilty when i consider asking a business owner to absorb "my loss". of course i have more empathy for some stores over others, based on their level of care and dedication.

If the fish stores QT the fishes for months before selling them , the markups would be 300-400% rather then the 100-200% markups. The markups wouldn't matter too much if it was a yellow tang, however a black tang or helfrich with that kind of markup would make them almost unobtainable. All stores with guarantee on live fish and corals require water samples. I am just happy to know that the local stores can bring in different selections and make them somewhat affordable.

I didn't say all fish stores should do it. I just said it would be nice if one did. I would definitely go to a place like that to buy my delicate fish, not the common hardy ones. I would rather have a slightly more expensive fish rather than just a dead expensive fish. But thats personal preference. And I don't have problems with water samples. I think its a great idea that they do that. As long as they don't try to reject for a stupid reason and are fair on their judgment.

Regardless of the guarantee, I think I feel more comfortable buying a fresh shipment of fish or corals.

Id hate to see them go through numerous acclimations.

Ive seen shipments arrive at LG and they come in this greenish water. Im not sure what it is maybe someone here might.

They pour water from a random tank and pour it in the bag, I would have to say 1:2 ratio Bag water vs Store water.

Thats a trunk load of stress that poor fish is going through. Unless they are hardy they'll make it, if not they will go sleep, laying down on the sea bed.

IME
Id say allot of stores have multiple tanks on one sump, or a system of sumps, so random may not be "different"

I worked at a wholesaler during College, namely Saltwater Connection. There Acclimation Process was simple/effective:
1) Float till temprature match
2) Cut bag, drain to bucket, dump fish in holding tank

not saing its the best way, or delicate way to do it, but its done.
(At most wholesalers, still done this way)

Green water would be if a Tang Puked during shipment, best to get the fish out of that water as fast as possible IMHO
