Buffer my Top off?

Do I need to buffer my top off water? I don't buffer my salt mix because I realize my salt has buffer in it already.

Some people say they do, some people say they don't.

Can someone explain why I need to, or don't need to buffer my top off water?

Thank you!

I can't explain why, but I never have. No issues here.

I figure that the minute it hits the salt water, it becomes "buffered" just as it becomes salty.

No.

Fresh water leaves through evaporation, so fresh water is added back to replace it.

I buffer my top off to help maintain a more stable alk in the tank. Alk is constantly being used in biological processes. It is used to build coralline and is used in nitrification. I never have to add the alk supplement to the tank. It goes in with the top off. But it something you have to decide for yourself.

Do you use additives? If yes then you don't need to. Alot of people use Kalking Wasser in the top of water with a small pump to stir it, which is what I do along with the pool calcium supp.

It's possible to add alkalinity (buffering) with topoff water, but it's not necessary. If you do dose that way, just be sure to keep track of the alkalinity carefully.

Please comfirm this.. You add Calcium Suppliment to the water container that is used to feed the Kalk Reactor?

I have been using pure RO/DI to feed my Kalk Reactor and as top off during the day.

It really needs no buffering but many people dose KW exclusively by adding to the top off water. That is fine.
