new top piece for acrylic tank???

Hi everyone, I've got a truvue 200 gallon acrylic tank and to top is not up to standards. The previous owner has repaired some cracks already, but there seems to be alot of really small stress cracks and some melted sections from the MHs. My questions is this: can I cut off the top by leaving about an inch around the edge and then weld-on a new acrlyic piece? Tank is 96x24x21, thanks

You can cut the top off, just make sure you have a really STRAIGHT cut so you get a good seal when reattaching the new top piece.

If you use a router with a clamping guide you will have good results.

I think he was just going to cut the middle out of the top and leave an inch from every edge. That would work fine. You will however end up with some bubbles in your top if the overlap is the full inch.
