sunlight vs artificial light

Hi Sanjay,

Would sunlight penetrate water better than artificial light? The reason I ask is because there is virtually no difference in the sun's intensity in my yard compared to the top of my roof.

I can get an artificial light that is more intense than sunlight at 1", but at 25', it is all spread out.

BTW, nice articles on light.

Thanks,

Joe

The sunlight is not affected as much by the inverse square law as a small finite point source of the metal halide lamp.

The change in distance from the roof of your house to the ground is almost negligible when you consider the sun is a few million miles away. So a few million + 40 ft is negligble.

How ever for a metal halide light the inverse square law is much more significant.

The majority of the drop off you see in your aquarium is from the distance and the inverse square law rather from the absorbtion in the aquarium water.

Has anyone done a natural sunlight tank by using a skylight or mirrors?
