They are actually coming out with a hybrid Accord now. Finally, a GOOD looking hybrid car. I guess they have had the hybrid civics for a while now, but I just think the Accords are so much nicer, especially the interior.

Speaking of ugly cars... thought you guys would get a laugh out of this.

True... I did go through the I want an SUV kick for the longest time, but unfortuantly the hubby thought that the minivan was better suited for our family... We have 3 kids, and with the 3 kids you get friends etc... Sooo it works out well for us in the long run , don't get me wrong I'd love an SUV, but we have college to think about our oldest is going into 10th. grade and we have the 2 girls also... Sometimes ya just can't have it all...

The boxy cars were introduced based on the popularity of them in Japan. See - what happened was - in Japan they started tarting up their econoboxes with huge exhaust , wings, etc. - you know, the whole ricer thing. Now, that fad hit the US hard and movies like Fast and the Furious fed that fad.

Auto execs then decide that the Japanese market now sets the trend for what's going to be hot in the US. Since the boxy little reject cars are popular as hell in Japan - the assumption is, they'll be adopted here.

My boss had one- they have a drain in the middle so you can take your seats out and water wash it out! What would someone be doing in there to make that big of a mess?

You'd have to be a midget to do anything interesting in one of those.

They have that for Jeeps, but ya I wouldn't imagine you'd be off roading or something in those pieces of junk.

I like the concept of the Element, but I think they missed a big market... active dog owners. Being able to hose out the inside is a great idea, but I think someone said... its just too ugly. Kind of like the Aztek's camper-addon idea. Great concept, butt-ugly execution.

The 1985 Honda Civic HF model got 50mpg, and didn't need a $6,000+ (dealer cost, not salvage) battery pack that will need to be replaced at some point before the vehicle gets to its life's end. We've made no real progress in mpg and made the cars a lot more complicated and more expensive to build and fix when something does go wrong.

What I don't get is the magazine people actually praise the element for style and all that but the overwhelming majority seems to think it is ugly.

I actually think the aztek is a better looking vehicle than the element.

IMO cars are becoming more complicated and expensive to fix because they last so much longer. I think that they are covering their butts with the fact that now people will only buy like a car every 5 years at least, when before they were selling more cars because cars didn't last that long. Cars used to be complete junk when they hit 100,000mi. Now I have yet to buy a car that started with less than that.

Exactly. Scion is a brand, not a model. The Element is a model.
