To get the most out of this method, you should cover the tank. Daylight will fuel the algae (and cyano). Ambient light can be okay (better to even avoid this), but sunlight is a little too much.

Wanted to update this for everyone. Its been 60 days since i tried this method. My cyano came back about 20 days afterward. It has come back with a vengence. I've taken pretty drastic measures and hope i'm getting the upper hand. But its been a 6m fight and i'd guess i'm in for another 4+ months of this judging by how its slowely fading.

I've since tried it again and added chemi clean at the same time to try and give it that extra kick out the door and it made no difference.

May be not Cyno? Chemi clean kill all my Cyno fast.

IMPUR,
you may have other issues, water source, over feeding, I have 2 rocks that get it, did the 3 day thing but it comes back on those 2 rocks, maybe in low water flow, got a dozen Cyno eating crabs from DrFS on Tuesday, gone now!!

I'm sure its cyano. Rock is over 3 years old in my system and this just popped up 6 months ago. I've done everything there is to do at this point. Everything ever suggested here at RC, i've now tried.

I'm just giving up and ripping the tank down in a few months. Just need to keep my corals alive in that time.

impur, have you tried shortening your lighting schedule, I go a whole day with out, then 2 hour lights on, 4 after then up to whatever you want it to be, just another way besides three days of lights out.

Yah I tried that. It came back once the light got to 4 hours a day.

Something is definitely not right if it is that resistant. I hope you can figure it out.

You're telling me!

I think i'm getting the upperhand, but its been tough and still looks terrible. But i'm seeing some positive improvements. I've been very diligent in the fight. I'll continue fighting it for a few more months.

Where have you documented your battle? I'd like to read your maintenance schedule, what you've tried, how long you've tried it, etc. Pictures too.

Sometime last year I was told of a cyanobacteria that was showing up in aquariums that was aggressive and resistant to all the tried and true methods and was ruining aquariums that had it. I've not heard anything else about it since.

This link is to the most recent post of mine concerning the problem. This post was in regard to prodibio, which i used back when this cyano started popping up. I was trying to think back and eliminate possibilities/sources of the problem.

http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...readid=1289270

But it outlines when things happened and why they started, as well as the course of action i've taken thus far. Feel free to pose any questions and any help you can give me would be much appreciated.
