I would not recommend buying a "pre-packaged" kit because it will be more expensive than necessary. I use micro-mesh sandpaper. 4,000, 8,000, and 12,000 grit. Sand the scratch with 4, then buff with the 8 and 12 and the scratch will be gone. Do a google search for micro-mesh or 12,000 grit sandpaper and you will find suppliers. $15 to $20 worth should easily last a few years.

Meguire's (sp?) has an acrylic/plastic polish that works pretty well. Can be found at autoparts stores. Comes in two grades, one for deep scratches and one for fine. Stuff works pretty good but don't use it on a tank with animals in it and clean the surface off with rubbing alcohol to remove any residue.

Can you use the sandpaper method while the tank has livestock?

I have used the Novus product on the outside of my tank. My new dog(puppy) went to town on it trying to get to the fish. It worked well. It says it safe to use inside the tank with livestock but I can't seem to get the guts up to try it.
