This question, and the accompanying conspiracy theories, always baffle me....

They charge what customers are willing to pay.

During the summer people want to GET OUT after being confined to the house all winter. They know we are willing to pay extra in the summer months, if prices were that high in the winter then people would not be as inclined to get out. Cold + high gas price = think I'll stay home.

How can you begrudge someone for selling gas for $3+ a gallon if people are willing to pay that??? If we stopped buying gas (or lower our consumption enough) guess what would happen?

Where is the outrage at Starbucks for charging $5 for a cup of coffee?

Disclaimer...That was not a political statement, please do not interpret that as a political statement, I'm am not a political person...

That being said. IBTL

You can then put it in the back seat of your Yukon and no we can not have an affair unless my wife OK's it.

I live in a little mountain town that is very geographically isolated and we get raped when it comes to gas prices. The cheap stuff is about 3.50. I also dont understand why deisel is so expensive, isn't it cheaper to refine? The cool part is that unless we drive down the mountain a fillup will last me over three weeks.

There is a BioDiesel manufacturing plant about 6 miles away from me. I never knew it was there but in the paper yesterday they apparently just spent a couple million to increase their production by 5 times.

Interesting but BioDiesel is still much more expensive than all other flavors anyhow and I don't have a car than can use Diesel and probably never will.

Every year gas goes up in the summer and back down in the winter if you look through the trends you will this to be true. When the summer driving/vacation season begins they always go about 10% give or take.

I'm not sure willing is the right word, at least not for some of us. I don't see where I have a choice not to pay $3/gallon or what ever the going rate is. I either buy gas so I can go to work, or I quit working. There is no viable mass transit in my area, though much of my highway taxes subsidize cheap mass transit for NYC which is 100 miles away Side excursions for pleasure definitely have been reduced.

You can be sure I'm not paying $5 for starbucks, heck I don't even like that stuff. It tastes burnt. The $1 a cup coffee from my local deli is much better and actually tasty

Theirs been some major refinery problems the past several months.

...or, we sit around our boardrooms in Houston seeing how high we can get the price so we can stick it to the public.

I wish Dan would get a raise every time the price went up.

Just a quick question, why in the world would an oil and gas company invest huge amounts of money to essentially drive themselves out of business?

These companies are in business to make money and increase shareholder returns, nothing more. How could anyone expect different? Don't like it? By a bike or buy stock in an oil major...or both.

Yup, Biodiesel

Why are gas prices so high again?
Greed,

it comes in many forms, regardless of political party, social circles or whatever crazy stuff the media presents to us. There is a reason why it is considered one of the 7 deadly sins. Excess greed causes problems.

You don't drive or you get paid a fuel fee. Just curious which?
