Calcium Levels
I cant keep my calcium levels above 340
I do a water change and it 420 or so but the next day its back to 340. so i dose with purple up . I wait 1 hr and test ( its still 340) ,so i double up wait 1hr and its still 340 so I try some kent maine 2 part a/b still no change The only reason i want the calcium levels , is to grow coralline on the live rock . I have 3 fish and a bunch of zoos in the tank. I have a skimmer in the tank ,could that be removing the calcium its a 14 gal bio cube ph 8- 8.2 nitrate 5-10 nitrite 0 ammonia 0 phosphate 0 - .25 calcium 340 temp 78.4 salinity 1.24- 1.25 Thanks |

which test kit are you using? For dosing calcium i use the 2 part Bionic calcium/alk buffer. It took me awhile to get the calcium and alk where it needed to be but now it stays there. Have you tested your alk or mag?

lol stop dosing and find out where your calcium is going? is it insanely stocked with sps? it has to be going somewhere. then when you find out dose accordingly!

High alk may be the cause, caclium could be precipitating quickly after you dose. remember with kent marine a+b the A part will raise the cal, while the B part will raise the alk. Also check your mag. Kent marine A/B also adds small amounts of mag. You may need to use some epsons salts to boost mag.

i am using an API calcium test it works ,i test the water before i add it to the tank and i get a 420 reading if i add the 2 part A/B to the tank i dont see it precipitating, i will check my mag today
I was able to keep the calcium at 420 -440 before i ran out of salt and bought a new brand at the same time i added a skimmer and that was the last time my calcium would stay above 340 (I went back to my old salt a ouple days ago ) Thanks |

Some of those liquid calciumks need to be shaken pretty well before use. A lot of the time all the stuff settles at the bottom...just a thought but i would also check the magnesium.
