can the clown help??

hi fellow reefers, i have a green goniopora and my clown fish has decided to make it is home, and i was wondering if this could be a great helper for the goniopora and significantly make its a happier and longer lived coral? The reason why i ask is because i bought the goniopora before i realized it is a extremely challenging coral to keep alive.... plz comments are welcome

Unfortunately, the clown can make a pesk of himself and potentially cause retraction and irritation. It's definitely not a commensal relationship.

Chalk it up to experience, and do your research in the future.

i noticed that it doesnt retract at all but i understand what u mean by being a pesk, well hopefully it works out for the best, they both seem happy so far and the goniopora is extended way out so thats good.

so what should i do to stop this clown fish, well the gonipora does close at night so maybe that will help the clown to get bored of it..... then again my lights are off and the clown is stuck to it like glue hehe

That is his natural behavior and you are not going to be able to break him of it. At this point you're going to have to make a decision, to keep one or the other. If you want more softies like hammers or colts you will continue to run into this problem. Chances are the gonio is not going to make it long term. Something to think about as well.

I agree. Even at this point if you try to get an anenome for your clown, there's a chance that it won't take to it. Goni's are very delicate to begin with and the added stress from a clown in't good for it, even if it appears like it's not bothered. You will need to get rid of the clown or the goni.
