Do sinularia shed?
I just finished a complete ovrehaul of my 29gallon 4 days ago. . New sand and healthy water change., cleaned all rock etc...All my softies are thriving. But it took a day for the Sinularia to bounce back. Now I noticed this morning it seems to be shedding bits and pieces of a thin film/skin type of membrane. I use a turkey baster to suck up bits as it floats off the branches....The sinularia is not happy to be touched at all.
Any idea if this is a normal behavior? I have had it for 2 years and never have seen this display. Snails and hermits have been working thier way around the base and onto the coral as well this week. Thanks for any ideas. Meg |

This is normal, be sure to have at least as much if not a little more current on this coral than you had previously.

Leathers will peridoically shed to rid themselves of any detritus or sediment building up on them. If they have a good current keeping anything from settling on em, then you probably won't see em do this. But give it a couple weeks at most and it should be done. Also, the skin they shed isn't the best stuff to be floating around the tank and may be toxic to some stoney corals.
