Alkalinity????

What is the safe ranges for alkalinity for mEq/l and ppm? I think my tank may be way off...Also what is the ideal target that i shoud shoot for?

2.5-4.0 meq/L or 125 to 200 ppm. I don't think there's an idea level. I would avoid letting the alkalinity drop below 2.5 meq/L.

Right now it has dropped to 2.25 mEq/L, my calcium is at 500. If i add buffer to my tank tomorrow will it raise the alk significantly without causing a reaction?

I would use baking soda dissolved in RO/DI water to get the alkalinity up. Other buffer products are likely fine as well.

You should raise the alk slow, most commercial sups also raise pH so keep an eye on it. Its advised not to raise it more than 1dkh per 24 hour period. I dont personally know what that equates to in meq/L.

I have pro buffer dKH, I will add it tomorrow morning before I turn the lights on, I guess I will take it pretty conservatively...my pH is running a little on the low side also, thanks guys

I just tested my calcium and it is pretty high...it is testing at 500...is adding buffer still a good idea? Should I wait on the buffer till the calcium decreases naturally? I don't want to do a water change if I dont have to because I just did one less than a week ago but I will if it is recommended...what do you guys think?

Just add the buffer. It will raise alk and pH (which you have room) and I suspect may lower your Ca++ just a tad. Which isn't a bad thing either.
