OT: bridge fishing reccomendations

can anyone provide a good bridge for fishing in the keys?

Yeah, I'd like to know too. I think I've fished about every bridge in the Keys and they all pretty much suck nowadays. If stupid people didn't take tiny fish all the time it probably wouldn't be so bad.

There's a good charter fishing boat down in Marathon that does night trips and is very affordable.

i went on a charter trip in flamingo on tuesday that was awesome. made it into the miami herald fishing report. caught lots and lots of fish. only kept a 7lb triple tail and a redfish. caught 7 jewfish (had on one about 40 lbs but it cut the line) a few big snook, nice trout and jacks.

it was the "getem" a charter boat out of flamingo. it was pretty pricey , it was their birthday gift and for being in my wedding party.

several bridges around mm70 and south are good, look for the one that have their own fishing walkway, and try to fish the last half of the changing tide, the slack, and the beginning of the next tide, the transition time between those has been the best for me


also the most productive has been no name key dont remember what mile marker, like 30 something i think, if you can find your way back there, walk out to where it starts getting deeper and of the flat with a big spinning rod, 30lb line class tackle and some cut bait. lots of big snapper and some tarpon. theres a bait shop right before you get on the bridge, im not saying anymore lol

If you have a fly rod, you can wade out in the flats off Long Key in the state rec. area and will likely find some bonefish. I've camped there before, woke up and got into the water before dawn and had an awesome time!!

several bridges around mm70 and south are good but the bridge is not the most important u need tu know the tricks I always go to mile 72 no one gets nothing there I always catch big boy over there snappers,groupers barracudas ext ext

u have to pay for that my english sucks man don`t make me do that , they are many things that u can do one very important the bait that u use, were and wen u want the bait, I use a {globo}don`t know that in english bolun balon don`t know and more more other little things.............I place my bait 3 times more far that u can do wish u Hans

I always catch tons of fish by taking my canoe out to the mangroves. Mine has a little Minnkota electric, a couple of batteries and it's silent and quick enough to get around for most of the day. Get a few dozen live shrimp and go where land-anglers can't. Lots of snapper, sea trout, snook, etc.

Theres plenty of fish to be caught on most of the bridges down there. Some of the most productive are the Chanel 2 and Chanel 5 bridges, both the out going and in coming tide work. If you want snappers and groupers drop your bait right next to the pilings on the downcurrent side; you can use whatever bait you want but I like fresh balyhoo, live pinfish and live shrimp. For the tarpon and permit, cast out a live crab and fish it on the bottom (use heavy tackle cause these get pretty big). If you want sharks and cudas, fish a nice size live jack or snapper either on the bottom or tie a ballon a few feet above the hook and let it drift with the current.

If the fishing is slow at these two then head south a bit to long key bride. I've filled my cooler with snapper, grouper, spanish macs, etc in just a couple of hours here and the tarpon are HUGE (100+ pounds)

yep. we drift these in the boat from time to time. works pretty good.

just for the record jewfish aka Goliath grouper are federally protected....

yeah your really not supposed to even take them out of the water, but you gotta get hooks out and get a good pic
