You're right--you won't find them grazing on grass all day long. On the contrary, they "snick" up their food, which involves a quick sucking movement of their snout. The remains are expelled through the top of their head. Pretty darn cool to watch.

Speaking of seahorses and their cuteness...(talk about a challenge to photograph!)

True, but they're still very easy to eat.

Newly hatched BBS ("new" being the key word, as they have lots of nutrition before consuming their yolk sac). The most ideal fry food is largely dependent upon the species, but this is what was reccommended for the H. erectus species.

Neigh. (nevermind the pun) Baby Brine Shrimp has very much nutritional value from their "yolk." It is the adults that are nutritionally worthless.

Your right. Starving BS have NO nutritional value. However, by feeding the BS phyto (eg Nanno., or Tetra.) you can gut load the shrimp and get the goodies out of the phyto (HUFAs etc), using the shrimp as a "bag".

Oh, note that red BS have been fed bacteria, green ones have been fed phyto.

HTH

Well done Kayla

Thanks again everyone. I can't make any promises yet, but each day I am learning more and more. Hopefully some day I will get it right.

I have a small in-tank filter (see top right) that is covered in pantyhose to prevent any of the babies from being sucked into one of the many holes. But yes, lots of water changes will also be needed to keep the params in check, although I'm hoping the filter (with a pre-cycled sponge) will help. As you can probably tell, lot of this tank consists of "experimental" stuff I rigged up due to its ease and the specificity required for such a tank (hence the flower pot and pantyhose, lol).

I don't think a one million gallon tank could hold an Orca.
