Yumas getting smaller
My yumas are opening about 1/2 their normal size. This has been going on for about 2 weeks. The only change I've made is adding moon lights. Are they "melting" or is this a normal thing and they'll eventually open up more.
Any other ideas/comments? Thanks! |

Have your tank parameters changed? Have you tried feeding them? What is your lighting and water flow? Have you added any corals to the tank that might be commiting chemical or physical warfare?

I agree. Feeding seems to make all the difference in the world when it comes to my rics. They went from little nothings at the bottom of my tank to a nice carpetted mat after I started feeding.

Besides fish feedings and some phyto, I've never feed my rics. My floridas, I've had for about 4 years and haven't noticed any shrinkage. My yumas I've had for about 6 months and these are the ones shrinking.

Seafan79: I feed them - as I do the rest of my tank - a mixture of cyclopeze, mysis and a little bit of phyto-feast.

Frozen mysis: In a small cup, take some water from your tank and then drop in a frozen cube of mysis. Allow it to thaw out. Using a dropper, remove as much of the water as you can. Add a few frags of frozen cyclopeze and then add some more water from the tank. Leave out for about half hour to allow the mixture to warm up to room temperature.
Siphon some of the mixture into the dropper or pipette and then carefully squirt some of the mixture upstream from the rics. You'll see them curl up when the puff of food hits their mouth. On ocassion they'll even grab a hold of a shrimp. One note to be made: Try and crush and break up the shrimp with your dropper. It's MUCH too big for corals in the state it's normally frozen in. |
