HELP.... problem w/ tank brown water

I have a 55g tank and the water keeps turning brown. this problem started after i put in 45 pounds of LR in that was cured.
before i put in the LR the tank was up and running for about 4 months without any problems.

whats going on and how do i correct this situation?

TIA

Hey Agilecrux. How long has the rock been in? I would think that either some good carbon, Chemi-Pure, or a Polyfilter would help to clear things up. A 15% water change may be in order, also. When was your last water change?

the LR has been in for about a month now. i have constantly done water changes since this problem started occuring. the only thing that has helped it so keep the lights off for a couple of days, but the instant that i turn the lights on the problem reoccurs.

the last water change was last night btw

ill start running my fluval 404 again w/ carbon and the white inserts again and see what happens.

thanks for the suggestions skipper.

Hey, I forgot to ask about your source water for your water changes. Where is it coming from? RO/DI unit, Tap Water Purifier, distilled, or just plain ole tap water.....???????

i use a Water Purifier (counter top DI unit) for water make up and changes. if im doing a water change i let the water sit for at least 24 hours w/ a heater and a powerhead.

IMO, that is a debatable subject. Some folks believe you should only run it for a few days to a week at a time. Others believe in running it 24/7. I happen to run it 24/7. It's up to you.
