Pic of my new acro. Any ideas on what it may be? Its a crazy blue color. Hard to capture with my camera and poor photo skills. Any comments or info appreciated.

Bebo77, thanks, I jumped on it as soon as I saw it. My LFS kept it for a week on hold to let it acclimate. After the week it gained some color and it came home. Both branches are around 3" long.

Thank you all for the comments and info. I currently run 150w 14k Sunpak's in a Current Sunpod. New bulbs soon. Looking at the AB 10k, Pheonix 14k, Radium 20k or the Reeflux 12k. I have no supplemental. Having a hard time finding a bulb that balances good color and PAR. Any suggestions?

I recently got one of those...same coral, same base. But the "hoeksemai" I got from Diver's Den looks slightly different....

New Bali acro labeled "grandis" on shipment list inventory:

And my "hoek" from Diver's Den:

Thanks SD, my coral looks similar to the Bali "Grandis" you acquired. It may not be a "Hoek" after all. Great pics showing coralite structure and definition. Either way, its an awesome blue colored species.

Agreed! It is a very beautiful coral. I'm anxious to see what growth pattern it develops in my tank...ie are the curving branches normal.

Oh, and just to confuse you even more, here's a pic of a "hoek" from Diver's Den which I lost a while back....not sure if it looks like either of the two above

Only time will tell how it grows out. Water flow will also have an impact on the pattern. Just to play it safe I placed it in an area of random flow under med-high light. Seems happy here, the polyps are out waving in the current.

Any other opinions? "Hoek" or "Grandis"?

Problem is I don't think I've ever seen any pics on here of a "grandis"... though the few speculations I did find through a search look nothing like either of those corals

I would say hoek, then again I am not familiar with the grandis species. IF it turns out to be a slow grower, or does not grown at all...........hiok IME.

Comparing the two on the whelk.aims website my best guess is A. grandis based on the corallite arrangement.

A. grandis

A. hoeksemai

250, with all the SPS in your system I find that hard to believe. Are "Hoek's" slow to non-growers? Thanks for taking the time to respond to this thread. You are one of the SPS guru's in my book, phenominal tank.

dreaminmel, thanks to the links to help identify both species.

My original LA hoek grew soooooo sloooowwwwww. That little triple branch thing sticking out the left side took over 6 months to sprout
