I'm really enjoying this thread! I don't hang out on this section of the board very often, I'm usually in the clownfish/anemone section, but I have a few questions about dendros and such.
In December, when we went Christmas shopping for ourselves, and we picked up this guy. Our LFS guy said it was a sun coral and threw it in as a gift - he didn't want to have to remember to feed it A few years ago we had a sun coral so I wasn't too hesitant to take this and give it some TLC and watch it grow. It still looks sad, but it's actually improved some. We have the base nestled in a rock cavity in the upper part of the tank where there's good flow, but it's being buffered a little by the rock. Someone was asking about color morphs on sun corals so I posted a pic thinking I had a neat color morph. A couple people suggested it was actually a dendro. I thought I would post here and see what you guys thought. I've been trying to find out if there's differences in care or placement (so far it doesn't look like there's a huge difference) and how you tell them apart from sun corals - is it size? Any help would be appreciated! This first pic gives you a pretty good idea of its coloring. It's a nice red with yellow tentacles. The mouth is yellow also, and when open it's striped yellow/red. The tank is currently lit by a 250 watt 20k metal halide. This pic was taken w/o a flash. This morning the coral was open. Lights out and taken with a flash. This is just a close up of the picture above. Click on the pictures for a bigger version. |
