Hi-- I hope you don't mind if I ask a question or two in this thread-- figured you guys would be the best people to ask about my new Blennie...

I have a bi-color blennie that I purchased last weekend. He seems to be feeding, although doesn't seem to go after the food too aggressively.

The foods that I have available right now to feed are:

Frozen Formula 2
Frozen Mysis Shrimp
Frozen Cyclopeeze

New Life spectrum pellets (small)

I have actually had the best response using NLS pellets. This fish normally eats veggies (algae) and I am not sure I am really feeding this guy the right stuff.

So I was thinking about purchasing some different food-- maybe formula1? The thing is, right now I don't have a lot of other fish that will eat algae, so I hate adding too much food that the other fish might not consume; don't want to feed more than I have to.

Can I make do with the foods I have now?

My other tank inhabitants are a Ocellaris clown, Royal Gramma and a small citron goby.

Thanks in advance--

Mike

I have a bicolor that loves mysis shrimp. But I buy the smaller frozen mysis (Hikari?). I have heard & observed where some blennys are not capable of chewing their food. It has to be swallowed whole.

my blenny gobbles the mysis whole. he seems to like the cyclop-eeze too, which he can also swallow whole. i use hikari mysis, which i've heard is smaller than pe mysis. hth.

i don't know about the sps because i only have softies and lps.( don't too much care for the look of most sps) mine will on occasion will come out and swim around and rest on my corals but he hasn't harmed anything. i wouldn't know about him with a lawnmower but from my keeping three shrimp gobies in the same tank i say go for it.

goalieman92..... how big do these blennys get, does it swim perching from rock2rock like a lawnmower blenny or does it just stay in one area?

I'd love to see some more pics of the tailspot and klausewitz if anybody gets a chance

i have a pic. it is about three inches long but i have no clue how big they get. they tend to find a hole in the rock and stay in it but will go out and about when you have left the room for a while or have sat there for a long time.

dznuts007, is that a barnacle blenny? After hearing some bad things about putting blenny's with seahorses I am thinking about something small like a barnacle blenny.

If your looking for a small blenny, try a double spot blenny. As soon as the wife gets home with the camera, I'll post a pic.

Orange Throat Pike Blenny

This is a picture of my Orange Throat Pike Blenny. I have two in my 90 gallon Reef Tank.

These are fish with a lot of personality, live in tubes (Old calcified Sea Fan Tubes, or Old Feather Duster tubes as shown in the picture).

Good eaters, not aggressive to other fish except except perhaps other Pike Blenny's if not given enough room. Will show off with big displays of aggression by opening their mouth (which is very large) and lunging if threatened. However this is all for show and no aggression really takes place.

Cool fish, easy to feed (Mysis, Brine, etc).

I was thinking of getting a Black-Lined Blenny and haven't been able to find alot of info about them. I was wondering if anyone here has one and can tell me their experience with it?

Usually scooter blennys (which are really dragonets) only eat pods, but if you get lucky he may eat mysis. But its worth a try.
