PAR= Photosynthetic Available radiation.

Its directly correlated to the EMR emmitance frequency a given light, or discharge tube gives off. The frequency (and wavelength) of electromagnetic radiation at visible levels (within the light spectrum) determines the color.

The chloroplasts, and photosynthetic accessory pigments are more efficient with certain colors of light. Generally PAR refers to the total spectrum photosynthetic animals can utilize to produce glucose (the byproduct of photosynthesis).

Therefore, corals (or anything else for that matter) wouldn't have much accessible light to work with. Right?

You want bulbs with the highest PAR level. Thus, the XDE 15ks are bad, due to low PAR. I want maximum growth, so I'm looking for a bulb with good PAR.

I agree, sounds like a good plan! That's how I have my lights set up now, except I have VHO--not T5 (and no moonlight).
If you decide to go pure SPS in the cube, then the 400 w MH might look pretty decent, and give you a more even color too. Would you use 20K's?

Blah i have been down the lighting path mutiple times...Sick of it. I found t-5s, can keep basically anything you want under them and they last almost 2 years without losing spectrum.. i replace mine once a year.

Yeah, Ross (that is your name, right?), I'd invest in a QT, they are very helpful in the long run. Can even be a bucket, I'd use a tank though. Just get a container, heater, powerhead, few hiding spots (PVC works well) and some sort of biological filtration (put a sponge in the main tank, wait a few weeks, then put it in the QT). You can treat all sick fish in there, and screen them before they make it into your display.
