Need help with Sand/DSB
Alas... no Southdown sand in Dallas. Lowes and HD don't carry it. I did find some sand that is used for swimming pool filters. It's a fine grain and consistant with no pea gravle in it. Do ya'll think that this will work for my DSB??

Probably need to talk to the shop or call the Manufacturer to see if it's calcium carbinate or silica.
Most people don't want to keep silica in the tank because of Diatom blooms. I'd call and see what it is. Then you can decide what you want to do... HTH, JB

If you would consider silica sand, you should do a search for it on this site because I remember reading such article and it was not against it, but the other kind of sand is still better.
Personally, I would also probably hold out and wait until you can get some SD. I am in Toronto and they don't sell that stuff here either but I'll wait patiently for that time to come. Good luck! |

Try http://www.marinesouth.com/
They have a shipping calculator on the site. From SC to AL it was about $13.00 for me. The site is new and changes a bit. I'd place my order by phone just to make sure they have it in stock. HTH! --Sam |
