Reef Optix 1 vs Lumenarc Minis
I currently have 2 Reef Optix 1 in a hood. The hood is fairly well sealed and have it venting to the outside of the house with a fantech 150 exhaust fan. Previously I had an 100cfm fan that pulled the exhaust then an inline fan to vent to outside. Subsituting the 100cfm fan and the inline with the fantech has helped tremendously but I'd like to see if I can keep improving the design.
I was thinking of the minis with the exhaust option and wanted to get feedback to see if this would make an improvement in cooling. Basically the minis would come with a glass and vent pipes holes. A y fitting is connected then vents to outside. Currently I also have 2 cfm fans blowiing across the RO. Questions: Would I be able to delete the 2 cfm fans if I go with the mini setup?. In time the electricity saved would be enough to justify the purchase in the minis. I do have a fairly big fan in the sump for evaporative cooling and that will stay. The tank is a standard 90 (48x18x24). I currently have 2 vho actinics and would like take this out if I go with the minis. Lastly, would I have an increase of light output with the minis?. Here's some pics of current setup. Caution: THIS SETUP IS NOT WIFE FRIENDLY Back of tank: Fan is on the floor fairly well hidden behind a cabinet. It is about 6' from the top of the tank and a few feet from exit to outside. thanks, Albert |

the light would transfer far less heat. not sure if you would want to delete the pc fans until you know for sure that its enough heat taken out.
the spread of the lumenarc would be far better as well. There would be more par available to the corals that are benefiting from the spread. so in effect you would have better output. |

Thanks Gsmguy. Just thought and seems like the fantech would have to come at the same time as the light. Currently they come on when the temperature of the tank reaches a certain limit.
