I don't think those are amphipods or copepods... but I'm sure Dr. ROn is going to ask you for a sharper picture. Try taking it without the flash on (if you had it on).

Hi,

The animals appear to be harpacticoid copepods. There are a lot of species of these little guys that can show up in reef tanks, see here for more information about them.

A better image would be a help, but I suspect you are at the limit of your camera.

That's wierd. I tried to culture harpacticoid copepods once and they didn't look anything like those things. I was probably sent the wrong thing. Grrr...

Hi Sara,

Check out the linked article, there is a lot of variety in this group and a lot of different shapes for harpacticoids.

Yes, I looked there. Then I felt better. Mine were more like the ones that looked like rolled up pill-bugs.

Hi Juan,

Very good image!!! THANKS!!!

The animals - absolutely - not a hint of a doubt - are harpacticoids. Note the little red spot at the front end, and the two little stubby antennae coming out on either side - those are definitive characterisitics (the single eye is a copepod character, and the stubby antennae are harpacticoid characters).

Neat little guys. Enjoy the biodiversity.

Are those green-ish dots under some of them eggs?

Hi Sara,

Yes, the greenish spheres are eggs.
