Here is Dow's technical manual, take a look at the design alternatives and configuration including the multi-stage option with up to 75% recovery for the whole system despite the fact that the recovery of a single element is 15 to 25%.
Also notice in single stage there is also the possibility of retro feed the waste if lower TDS in the inlet water is available!
If after this you do not belive then try starting your own 5 year test, who knows, working in the industry may help you find ways to increase performance.
