Hands down Oceanic Biocube, Then Current Aquapod and last JBJ Nanocube. Cadlights makes some nice tanks I would also look in to those..

I have a Biocube 14 gallon in my office its been a great little tank. I really liked the quality of the Oceanic Products, ive read mixed reviews on the others. I picked up my 14 gallon for $170 at a local store here in Phoenix. The Red Seamax someone suggested would run close $600-$800 and it's 34 gallons.

The Biocubes come in 8,14,29 gallons and they are plug and play ready. Since you said it was for your daughter any of these would work, its not like she will be keeping clams and SPSs???

Good luck with your choice!

i highly recommend the oceanic biocube. i just picked my 14g up for 170$ and it has a 35$ mail-in rebate on the box. pretty damn good deal for considering it comes with decent lights and pump.

I agree with re: the Oceanic Bio-Cube - I have an 8 gallon and it is a great little tank. I also have a 34g CADLights which is beautiful but much more money.

Ditto on the biocubes!
I have been very happy with mine. Had it for a year today!
I have the 14g and the lighting is great , i can keep pretty much anthing besides anemones, clam and sps , as mentioned
The one common problem that i hear about often is the external ballast tend to burn out.
One of mine burned out after eight months . Oceanic was pretty good about sending one out to me in a week.
