From a well-meaning tank sitter two seconds before I HAD to leave for the airport:
"Wait.... how do I read a thermometer?"

A week into a vacation from a tank-sitter I'd left with enough for four months:
"Hey, I need to run to the petshop to get more fishfood.... what do I get to make the white stuff in the water go away?"

After yet ANOTHER tank sitting disaster:
"Kat, your skimmer had to be taken out back and shot."

My sister is tank sitting for me which means feeding the fish and topping off the water while on Thanksgiving vacation.

Cell phone rings, it's my sister telling me the tank is not making any noise. Blood pressure sky rockets hearing those words. I eventually figure out part of the problem except the loud popping coming from "somewhere around the tank".

Umm, I guess it was this

What I heard this morning while I was still in bed - my significant other yelling up the stairs "The tank is overflowing!!!! How do I turn it off?"

Turns out that a huge turbo snail went into the overflow box and up into the standpipe... that was really fun and just a "slightly" auspicious start to 2008!

"This isn't mountain dew!"

(I had been saving skimate in a pop bottle to give to friend as a gag gift to show her what 'real' skimate looked like compared to her seaclown)

The guy who drank some had to be on antibiotics for a week.

Tank sitter: How many fish did you have when you left?

I think any time I leave my house something goes wrong with my tank.

Visitor says, "Those plants look really fake." while pointing at the SPS.

or

Visitor says "Uhhhh, yeah... corals... HEY, this magnet scraper thing is sooooo cool!" while I point out my favorite corals.
